Role of our School Council

FUNCTIONS OF A SCHOOL COUNCIL

The functions of a school council are specified in the Training Reform Act 2006 and include:

• Establishing the broad direction and vision of the school within the school’s community
• Participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan
• Approving the annual budget and monitoring expenditure
• Developing, reviewing and updating school policies
• Raising funds for school related purposes
• Maintaining the school’s grounds and buildings
• Entering into contracts (such as for cleaning and construction work)
• Reporting annually to the school community and to the Department
• Creating interest in the school in the wider community
• Informing itself of and taking into account the views of the community
• Regulating and facilitating after hours use of school premises and grounds.

School Council currently meets in the evenings on the 3rd Tuesday of February, March, May, June, July, August, October, November and on the 2nd Tuesday in December.

Our School Council comprises a total of 15 members:

• 8 Elected Parent members
• 4 Elected Staff members
• Principal as Executive Officer
• 2 Coopted Community members

Each member holds the position for a maximum of two years.

Elections for half the members are held each March.

School Council Sub Committees

Finance sub committee meets at 4.00pm on the Thursday prior to school council meetings.  These meetings are chaired by the Treasurer.

The Fundraising sub committee also meets regularly.  These meetings are chaired by the Fundraising Committee convenor.
