The Arts

Visual/Media Arts

The Visual/Media Arts program at TMPS, provides opportunities for students to plan, design and create visual and media art works that communicate, challenge and express their own ideas and those of others.

Students attend the Art room once per week, for a 50 minute session.  The Art room provides the students with a calm, safe place to learn and enjoy the many aspects to Visual and Media Arts.    During this time, they will engage with and develop their knowledge of visual and media arts skills, techniques and processes, such as colour, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. They will also use a variety of materials as they explore a range of forms, such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, filmmaking, design, and crafts.

Through learning in Visual and Media Arts, students consider how cultures and societies shape arts practice and how artists and viewers contribute to a creative society. Students are also given the opportunity to learn and explore the works of various famous artists.

Performing Arts

TMPS brings together Music, Drama and Dance in an integrated approach to the teaching and learning of Performing Arts. Students at TMPS gain the knowledge and skills required to perform in front of an audience by singing, dancing, acting and playing instruments in weekly lessons. Some topics of learning include:

  • Acting/character
  • Safe dance practices
  • Beats/rhythms
  • Storytelling/interpretations of story
  • Songs and melodies

Cross-curricular connections between Performing Arts and Literacy are complimentary by way of story, character and plot.  There is also evidence to support that exposure to arts-based subjects develops individual creativity and self-expression.  Art-based learning can also increase a student’s confidence and motivation which can ultimately have an impact on their academic results and wellbeing.
