About Us

I am very proud to lead this dynamic and caring school community, where daily you can see happy children and highly professional educators engaging in learning together every day.  Thomas Mitchell Primary School is made up of a diversity of cultural and social backgrounds.

Thomas Mitchell Primary School opened in 1991 and is located in the south-eastern suburb of Endeavour Hills.  Our school community has become more diverse and now includes students from over 70 countries, with no particular dominant nationality.  65% of the students at the school have a language background other than English (EAL).

This is a school community that prides itself on the strength of our relationships and our ability to develop your child’s curiosity, academic ability, and social and emotional wellbeing. We are fortunate at Thomas Mitchell Primary to have a dedicated team of professional and high-quality teachers who work together to make your child’s learning experience positive and enjoyable. Our teachers are committed to building strong relationships with parents and working together with them to provide the excellent learning programs on offer and support each and every child to reach their full potential.

It is our aim to help your child settle into our school community and build those skills, attitudes and values they will need to fully participate in the rich educational life of our school and beyond. The social and emotional wellbeing of our students is of vital importance and our programs are planned with this in mind. We work to develop confident and resilient students who are prepared to push themselves to achieve the best of their ability and to try something new.

Our strong academic focus is supported by a multitude of extra-curricular programs such as Physical Education, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Multi-Media, Science, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Music, Language (Mandarin) and Learning Support and Extension programs.

At Thomas Mitchell Primary School we acknowledge that Student Voice is a powerful driver to motivate learning. We strongly believe that students having a voice is important at both a local and global level. The opportunity to be heard and be involved as key stakeholders ensures that viewpoints from a range of representative students are heard and this in turn leads to more informed decision making. Through leadership positions, Student Agency & Voice Council membership, students are able to access authentic opportunities to develop a voice.

Parents are encouraged to participate in the education of their children.  We believe that children develop more meaningful and positives attitudes to school and learning when parents and teachers work as a cooperative team to ensure the very best of education outcomes for our students.

On behalf of the staff, I look forward to sharing an enjoyable and exciting time with you as your children develop a love of learning and an understanding of cooperation and citizenship at Thomas Mitchell Primary School.
